Blade Profiling

Book Profiling

Body

SkateTech offers blade profiling services to address skating performance issues. The service addresses concerns like leg fatigue, lower back pain, and balance problems that may indicate the need for blade profile adjustment.

A blade profile, also called rocker or contour, refers to the curvature of the skate blade's bottom lengthwise. Factory profiles typically range from 9 ft to 11 ft radius. The company performs height maintenance on new blades before profiling to ensure symmetry and remove factory imperfections.

Profile selection depends on multiple factors. Smaller radius profiles (9 ft) provide greater agility and acceleration but sacrifice speed and stability. Larger radius profiles (13 ft) offer increased straight-line speed and stability with decreased agility. Individual considerations include age, height, weight, skating ability, style, and position.

SkateTech recommends re-profiling every 6 months for regular skaters and every 6–12 months for recreational players. Improper sharpening or automatic machines can alter profile characteristics over time.
